About Neon Sortie
Free vertical shooter in your browser. Everyone flies today's sortie — the same formations and the same boss — and settles up in three minutes on kills, accuracy, no-hit runs and speed. Survival time scores nothing.
How to play
- Touch: drag to steer — your ship rides just above your finger and fires automatically. Lift your finger to slow down. Tap with a second finger to barrel roll.
- Desktop: steer with the mouse or WASD / arrow keys. Space or click to barrel roll.
- One ship, three hits. A barrel roll (three per run) gives 0.8 s of invincibility.
- Wipe out an entire formation to earn an 8-second wide shot.
- Wave 1 → Wave 2 → Wave 3 → Boss (45-second limit). Everyone flies the same mission each UTC day.
Scoring
- Small 100 · Medium 300 · Large 800 (×2 while it is attacking). Wiping a formation adds its size × 100.
- No-hit wave +2,000 · no-hit run +10,000 · each unused barrel roll +1,000.
- Accuracy (kills ÷ enemies spawned): 100% +15,000 · 95%+ +8,000 · 90%+ +4,000.
- Boss defeated +20,000 plus 100 per second remaining. Survival time itself scores nothing.
Daily board FAQ
- Which day is the board on?
- The board follows the UTC calendar day (09:00 in Korea, 20:00 Eastern the evening before). The exact day is always shown as “Board day YYYY-MM-DD (UTC)” with a countdown to the reset.
- What happens at the reset?
- Today's board becomes final and a fresh, empty board opens. A run started less than six minutes before the reset may finish after the board has closed — that run can't be registered.
- How are ties ranked?
- Equal scores: the newer entry ranks higher, so a tie with 20th place still gets you on the board.
- Can one player hold several places?
- No. Each player keeps one row per game per day — your best score. Play again and only a higher score replaces it. Players are identified by an anonymous id stored in this browser, so clearing site data or switching devices makes you a new player.
- What is the rules version?
- Every board is tied to a rules version. If a game is rebalanced, a new version opens a fresh board so old and new scores never mix.
Mission FAQ
- Is the mission the same for everyone?
- Yes. The formations, their paths and the boss come from one seed the server derives for the UTC day, so every pilot flies the same sortie until the board resets. Reading the patterns is the skill.
- What do the four medals mean?
- COMPLETE — the boss was destroyed. 100% — every enemy that spawned was shot down. NO HIT — you finished the boss without being hit once. SPEED — the boss went down with 15 seconds or more left on its timer.
- Why does my score drop at the end of a run I lost?
- The number in the HUD is what you have banked: kills, wiped formations and no-hit waves. Accuracy, unused barrel rolls, the no-hit run bonus and the boss bonus are settlement bonuses — they are only paid if you reach the boss alive. A third hit ends the run and those bonuses stay at zero.
- What if the board is unreachable?
- The run still plays — the ship, the waves and the boss come from a local practice seed instead, and the result screen says so. Practice runs are never registered.
